First Iraq Medal of Honor
Army Sgt. 1st Class Paul Ray Smith of Tampa
was awarded the first Congressional Medal of Honor in 12 years.
Two years ago, in a firefight in Iraq, Smith was killed in action
while saving the lives of many of his fellow soldiers.

WW II Veteran gets Bronze Star
Manuel Lopez Sanchez was seriously wounded at Normandy in 1944. This Friday, now 86, he received the Bronze Star and seven other medals for his service and sacrifice during WW II.
He said, "I don't need thanks or nothing for doing something for my country," Sanchez added, his voice wavering. "I just feel lucky to be alive."

First Iraq Victoria Cross
Private Johnson Beharry was awarded the first
Victoria Cross in over 20 years.
Last year, he led a convoy out of an ambush, and a
month later, in another ambush, in which he was seriously wounded,
he rescued other wounded crewmen.
